December 2006

1) New - revised analysis of the first year of middle school inspections under the new framework .

Go to the Middle School Research page of the NMSF website to download a revised analysis of the first year of middle school inspection reports under the new inspection framework.

Comparative figures for all schools inspected during 2005/2006 were published as part of the HMCI Annual Report in November and these figures are now included in an extended report comparing middle school outcomes with those for primary and secondary schools.

The Excel datafile containing the data upon which the report is based is also available to download. This will enable you to search the data by size of school, local authority, age range........

Suggestions invited  for workshops at the National Conference

One of the most successful aspects of the last national conference was the high quality of the workshop sessions offered. The committee planning the 2007 Conference would welcome suggestions for either:

·        topics for workshops at our next conference

or

·        interesting work by particular people or organisations who might be approached to run a workshop at the conference.

Please send your suggestions to Nigel Wyatt – email address below.

4) ELMLE Conference in Zurich

Sue Kennedy (Hertfordshire) and John  Kime (Staffordshire) will be representing the Forum at the forthcoming conference of the  European League for Middle Level Education, to be held in Zurich at the end of January 2007.

5) Sharing good practice in our schools

The website now has a page devoted to sharing good practice in our schools. You will be able to find schools with interesting practice in a range of schools, clicking on the school name will launch an email enquiry form.

For this to work I need to schools to come forward with areas of interesting practice they are willing to share with others.

Please send me a brief email giving

  • School Name
  • Lea
  • Your name

  • Area of interesting practice – and BRIEF description.

Thanks for your co-operation
